Are you planning to get married in 2014 – 2015 or beyond?

After the great excitement and celebration of your engagement it is important for both of you to decide on when and how you would like to get married. This is a very important discussion to have sooner than later, because although you both are committed to marriage one of you may not want to rush while the other person cannot wait to set a date and get on with the plans.

So number one tip: Be Proactive.
  • Have an open, honest discussion within a few weeks of becoming engaged to understand what each other really need and want. Start with asking the following questions:
  • When you would ideally like to get married e.g.: month, year, season, day of week, time of day?
  • What sort of wedding have you dreamt or imagined having e.g.; big, small, themed, traditional, contempory?
  • How many people will be invited?
  • Who would you have to invite and who would you also want to invite?
  • Where would you like to explore as options to marry e.g.: at a venue, indoors, outdoors, a private home, a club etc.?
  • What sort of budget do you plan to work with?
  • What are the must haves, what is more flexible the nice to haves and what might be not necessary?
A great starting point that I recommend to anyone planning a wedding is book with loads of practical advice and an easy read “The Big Day; A guide to getting married in New Zealand , by Kerril Cooper and Denise Irvine
